Can I Take Zofran While Suffering From Nausea During Pregnancy?

Hi. I m 40, 5 2 , 122lbs, second pregnancy. Good health. I m 7 weeks pregnant and have severe nausea. It doesn t seem to get better after I eat, almost the opposite. I m taking Vit. B6, Ginger and Zofran, neither really seem to help. When I lay down at night on my back I feel a heaviness on my chest; like it s hard to breathe. Any suggestions would be great.

Hi,
I understand your concern.
Zofran is anti emetic drug used mostly to control post operative vomiting. It does not have specific effect on pregnancy vomiting.
- Excessive pregnancy vomiting is best control with drug DOxylamine succinate- ( Doxinate ) 2 pills taken at bed time
- For heaviness in the chest you can add proton pump inhibiter like Zentac 150 mg twice a day after food.
* apart from this few life style changes would ease the control.
- Nibble dry food items ( bickuit/ dry fruit) first thing before you get up from your bed in morning.
- take small servings of non spicy food that you wish to have frequently,
- cold milk/ ice cream taken very slowly usually is digested well
- Sour things ( buttermilk, lemon water with salt & sugar is tolerated very well..
- avoid psychological or physical stress ,
- In case nothing is digested, visit ER for Iv fluids as per need.
