Hello, I ve been having cramps all day. I took two aspirin (325 mg) each at 9am and it really didn t do anything. At around 12:15 the cramps went away. They came back around 3:45 and I took the same dose of aspirin at 4 pm. It is now 6:45pm and I still have cramps. The aspirin isn t doing anything. Can I take an ibuprofen?

Hi & Welcome.

Avoid taking Ibuprofen while on Aspirin.

Aspirin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) commonly used for the symptomatic relief of fever, pain and swelling associated with arthritis, infection, toothache and other conditions.

Its most common side effects include nausea, indigestion, inflammation of the stomach, gastritis, and stomach ulcer. In severe cases bleeding can also occur, especially in people taking high doses for extended periods of time.

Ibuprofen is also a potent NSAID effectively used for the symptomatic relief pain associated with inflammation, toothache, infection and trauma.

It also has similar side effects as that of Aspirin.

Since Aspirin and Ibuprofen belong to the same therapeutic drug class (NSAIDs), using two different NSAIDs together is unsafe as it can increase the risk of undesirable side effects such as stomach ulcer or bleeding.

Since you are suffering from cramps you are advised to consult your doctor for proper clinical examination to find out the exact cause of the cramps and its treatment.

Hope the advice given above would be beneficial.
Best regards.
