Can Ibuprofen Be The Cause For The Bumps On The Back?

Hello, my 10 year old son had a slight fever during the night so I gave him a dose of ibuprofen and about 45 minutes later he was complaining that he was feeling itchy on his back. I checked him and saw he had a few bumps that looked like mosquito bites on his back but nowhere else on his body. I usually give him ibuprofen when he needs it, but he s never had any kind of reaction to it before. Could he all of a sudden be allergic to it now? The bumps showed up only on his back and nowhere else on his body and they went away after I had given him some benedryl.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible an allergic reaction to the ibuprofen though it would be expected to be more widespread reaction.

It is also possible that the reaction could be to an insect sting or bite since it is localized to one specific area.

If he needs ibuprofen in the future, you would need to monitor to see if this was the source.

I hope this helps
