Can Imodium And Pepto Bismol Be Taken For Diarrhea?

I have been taken off Entocort by my gastroenterologist because it s a steroid. I was on it for 10 yrs (1 3mg capsule daily). She said if the diahrrea came back (which it did after 10 days) to use Imodium and Pepto Bismol. What are your thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for asking. I understand your concern.
Yes both the medicines are given to control diarrhea.
Imodium slows down the the intestinal movements ( peristalsis).. so as to enhance absorption of nutrients & excess water & controls diarrhea.
Peptobismol prevents diarrhea & discomfort due to over indulgence of food or drinks
Thanks
