Can Indomethacin Be Taken For Inflammed Spinal Cord While Having Diabetes?

I have herniated disc and my spinal cord suddenly inflamed causing severe pain which I hadn t experienced in 8 years. Since I am diabetic, my primary care physician recommended against taking prednisone to reduce the inflammation. what about Indomethacin? Is this drug okay to take for diabetics, and how long before the inflammation will subside?

Dear user,

I really understand your concern, but I will agree with your doctor per prednisone.

Let me explain why. Prednisone is more effective than indomethacin for inflamed spinal cord. On the other hand indomethacin can be used safely in diabetes.

Well, prednisone will elevates your blood sugar level, but that can be controlled by increase the dosage of your antidiabetics (as well as tolerated) or adding an other drug for diabetes (that you may discuss with your treatment doctor).

Hope I was giving your a helpful answer!

Wish you good health ASAP!
