Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i am scheduled to have full teeth extractions next week and full dentures. the doc had me on clindamycin for 7 days....I have been soo uptight thought my joints hurt so much and my chest felt tight and my head felt like it was going to explode was stress about the procedure. Tuesday was my last dose, and yesterday when I called with some questions, he wanted me to refill the script and take till surgery next Tuesday. thing is today, since being off this for a couple days...I feel more calm, not achy, and my head is clear. I don t want to take this antiobotic because the side effects were not good, and also caused bloating and loose stools...does it sound reasonable to suggest another antiobotic like Keflex?
For dental infections, clindamycin is commonly prescribed because it covers most of the bacteria that cause infections in this part of the body, including bacteria called anaerobic bacteria. Keflex would not cover for this bacteria well, so normally it would not be recommended in this situation. However, one other option would be Augmentin, which can also be given for dental infections. I would suggest talking to your doctor about using that antibiotic instead since you've been having a bad reaction to the clindamycin.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Aaron Branch,
