Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Levothyroxine And Liothyronine Sodium Be Taken In Place Of Synthroid?
I have been taking synthroid (brand) for at least 30 years. Just moved to a new City, have a new internist, and discussed this with her. I m sure the reason I was prescribed synthroid rather than the generic is because the generic was not effective. My new Dr. Just filled a prescription for levothyroxine 150 mcg along with a prescription forliothyronine sod 5 mg. not clear what each does.
Synthroid and levothyroxine are chemically similar and you can interchangeably use both the drugs. Nothing much to worry and your treatment is in the right track.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
