Can Levothyroxine Cause Back Pain, GERD And Abdominal Pain?
I started taking Levothyroxine a week ago because my blood work came back that I was hypothyroid. My only sign of hypothyroid was I had gained 15 pounds and I also had a lump in my lower throat near the thyroid. The lump does seem gone but I have had so many other things wrong with me since taking this medicine. I have had anxiety, and for two days I felt pain above my left and right breast and my chest was burning. I went to the dr and he suggested me see a cardiologist. He said the burning and the pains could be the gall stones. I also have back pain like somewhat pins. I have found my self wanting to cry sometimes too. I have had mild bits of anxiety but nothing like I have had since I have been on this medicine. I do have Gerd and have had for many years. When I went in my gerd was under control now it seems like it is triggered. The day I got my results as Hypo I also got test results showing I had gall stones but I have no abdominal pain. When I went in the only problem I had was the throat and now I have all these problems. I am curious if it could be due to the med.
Anxiety and chest burning with left and right breast pain could be something else or may be due to thyroid related since you have just started thyroid tablets a week ago.
If you have undergone abdominal ultrasound which detected your gall stone then it could be the reason of your pain.
You may take symptomatic treatment like over the counter pain killers and antacids for temporary relief.
But this nothing to do with your levo-thyroxine tablets and will advise you to continue the same medications for hypothyroid.
Consult your treating physician if problem persists.

Can Levothyroxine Cause Back Pain, GERD And Abdominal Pain?
Hello, welcome to HCM. I have read your query and understand the concern. Levothyroxine very unlikely can cause back pain or reflux gastritis or even abdominal pain.
