Can Levothyroxine Cause Long Term Damage And Headaches?
I am a 31 year old woman. A doctor told me to have my thyroid checked out after looking at my blood work results. Test Date: 30 Dec 08 Free T4 1.15 TSH 5.19. The doctor told me due to that I should get it checked out. I go see a doctor at a clinic about it. At first she was telling me that I would have to come back due to I had missed my chance for the day to have my blood drawn. After she found out I had with me the test results from the other doctor she asked to see them. She prescribed me Levothyroxin generic for>Synthroid. 150MCG a day every morning. She prescribed me 90 pills. I started having problems a few days after starting my prescription. I stopped taking them when I ended up collapsing to the floor about 7 minutes after I swallowed it. My mind was not right, it was if I was going to break out in a cold sweat, body went limp so I went to the ground, my body trying to vomit even if nothing was in my stomach. 2 and a half - three weeks taking this medicine. At first I used the whole pill. Then about after one week I started taking half a pill due to the fact that around 2-3 pm I felt like I had not slept in days. Nodding out and falling asleep where ever I was. It seemed to me that even though I had cut the pill/dosage the side effects were getting worse. It would start about 10 minutes or so after I had taken the pill. At first I felt like I was going to break out in a sweat and I would feel weird like my mind was about to shut off and pass out. Then days later nausea was added. By the third week I was only taking a fourth of a pill a day. I ended up on the floor three different days and then I did not take another pill after that. Year or so later I got to a better place in my life and decided to go tell a new doctor at a different clinic and told her what happened. She did blood work on me and called me later and told me there was no indication that anything was wrong with my thyroid. I have not been myself since I have taken that medicine. I started having headaches. Started out about once a week pain such as a migrane. Over the years the intensity and frequency increased. I have a ongoing headache for 4 months now. I do not remember what it is like to be without a pain in my head. It is only on the left side of my head and behind my eyes toward the center. It has been constant but its intensity has not been . It started out with migrane and increased to a throbbing stabbing pulse which lasted for about 3 hours then faded to a pain level of about a 6 on a 1-10 scale. Right now its just constant about a 4. If feels like pressure. It feels as though if I were laying down and had a brick laying on the left side of my head while I standing up. Like something is pressing in even though nothing is there. I have not been able to gain weight since the medication. I weighed 138 pounds when I started it. Today I weigh 112-115 pounds. My height is 5 ft 5 inches. I cant gain weight. I look sick. My question is could whats wrong with me be due to taking 150MCG of that medicine? Someone told me that 150 was a very high dosage of that stuff to start me out on. I dont know. Im poor and cant afford to go to the doctor for every little thing. Its been on my mind so I would like to know could have taking that stuff when I didnt have anything wrong with my thyroid cause damage to me that would be effecting me today? I greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions and thank you all for your time. Please help.
