Can Levothyroxine Have Any Adverse Effect On Liver?

I am looking to confirm if Levothyroxine can have any adverse effects on liver- causing coughing with every dose, now learning post Cholecystectomy that liver is firm and lumpy. Has been determined that my friend has allergy to the generic synthroid and finally after 19 months PCP is working to get trade name drug via letter of Medical Necessity to the insurance company. Friend has felt horrid only since starting to take the Levothyroxine.... could this have anything to do with his elevated liver/ and kidney functions?
