Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am presently taking Crestor with no problems and it has gotten very expense the pharmacy suggesed that I ask my doctor to try to take lovastatin instead since it is more affordable Is there much diference I have a history in my family of heart disease and I have high cholosterel Crestor has helped control it quite well I also have a history of thyroid trouble and take Synthroid
Hello, Both lovastatin and Rosuvastatin i.e Crestor belong to same class of medicine for cholesterol control i.e Statins.Rosuvastatin is latest and very potent in controlling cholesterol levels and have some additional benefits over Lovastatin. So i will not suggest you to change it to lovastatin. If really its not affordable to you then you can think of Atorvastatin instead of Lovastatin which is better and also very good for controlling cholesterol.Lets talk to your doctor before changing your medicines. Take care.Hope this helps. Thank you.
