Can Mesalazine Enema Be Used Past Its Expiry Date?

I used Mesalazine enema which had an expiry date of 03/08 and after 3 hours, I ejected the lot (hardly any solids) but it was all black. Any thoughts on expiry/degradation of mesalazine? Should I continue using this, as I have to wait for 2 weeks for a new stock?
