Can Metoprolol Tartrate Be Taken After Its Expiration Date?

I take metropopol tart for high blood pressure. My meds were destroyed in the recent hurricane in florida. I have not been able to reach my physician. I happen to have a bottle that was prescribed to me a few years ago. Are these safe to take until I can get my current prescription refilled.
