Can Metoprolol Be Taken After Consuming Beer?

I am on 100mg daily Metropolol tartate for CHF. I occasionally drink a margarita or dark beer. Does not seem to affect me much and I want to continue this little habit. I m an 80 yr old woman also taking BP med and it seems to be working fine. What is your opinion ? Thanks

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Metoprolol does not have any drug interaction with alcohol. You can safely take metoprolol after taking beer. It wont affect its efficacy. The metoprolol may worsen gastritis if taken along with alcohol. You can take antacids like omeprazole to avoid this problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
