Can Mirtazapine And Trazadone Be Taken Together?

My doctor has prescribed Mirtazapine 15mg for me as I have lost a lot of weight and have less energy than I like. I already take Trazadone for insomnia. Reading the side affects of this new rx causes me concerns. I have had seizure activity in the past due to a benign brain tumor now removed. I also have hx of unifocal pvc s. Should I be concerned or take the rx as recommended?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Trazodone oral and mirtazapine oral both increase serotonin levels in the blood.

Too much serotonin is a potentially life-threatening situation. Severe signs and symptoms include high blood pressure and increased heart rate that lead to shock.

So it is better not to take Trazodone and Mitrazapine together.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Prabhash Verma, General & Family Physician
