Can Morphine Cause A Delay In Menstruation?

I have a question, the last time I remember getting my period was in October of 2015 on December 25th however, I broke my ankle & the paramedics gave me morphine for the pain & the nurse later had me pee in a cup to check if I was pregnant to be put to sleep, she said I was not pregnant, but it s February 4th & I still haven t gotten my period. I haven t had much time to buy a good test but my question before I jump to conclusions is can medication like morphine affect urine tests like a false negative? I ve read online it could be possible but I m not sure.. I haven t been back to the doctor because my ankle is still hurting.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Pregnancy tests can be affected by some medications but mainly hormonal medications not by medications that would not the level of HCG which is the hormone being tested for.

You can redo a pregnancy test to get a definite idea if you are pregnant or not.

The other causes of delayed period are: (1) physical illness
(2)abnormal levels of thyroid hormone
(3)emotional illness or stress
(4)high levels of prolactin hormone
(5)polycystic ovarian syndrome
(6)side effect of hormonal medication

If the test is negative then you may want to be investigated to see if any of these are the cause. This would require blood tests and imaging (ultrasound).

I hope this helps
