Can Nitrofurantoin Drug Cause Any Side Effects?

I m on my second prescription of Nitrofurantoin Mono-Mcr 100 MG due to an urinary tract infection. For the past week I have developed extreme itching along with a rash on my back. What can I use to stop itching and rash? Could I be having a reaction from the antibiotic?

Hi,

Suggestive of allergic reaction to Nitrofurantoin. I advise you to stop taking Nitrofurantoin and take an oral antiistamine like cetrizine along with application of 1% hydrocortisone cream at the affected area. Consult your doctor for an alternate effective but a safer medicaiton to treat urinary tract infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
