Can Norethisterone Normalise Period?

i have irregular period and a couple of day before, i see a doctor,she gave me norethisterone for 2weeks. my question is, will i have to always take it to make sure my period is on time? if i do not take norethisterone after i finish this 2weeks, will my period be irregular again?
