Can Normoz Be Taken For PCOS?

Hi, I am 35 years old. I have always had an irregular cycle. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 7 years back. I did not take any treatment for it. I got married when I was 31 and was on OCP for 1.5 years. I stopped taking OCP in September 2013. I used to weight about 67kgs but worked hard and reduced to 55kgs in February 2014. My cycle was regular till October 2014. Suddenly at that time I developed severe acne and my cycle became irregular. In November 2014 I took a week off from work and exercise and suddenly put on 4kgs weight. I tried hard to reduce weight but it did not work. Periods were more or less ok. I met a gynecologist in July 2015. This time the scan did not show PCOS. I was diagnosed with high prolactin levels. Doctor asked me take Tablet Caberlin 0.5mg for 8 weeks after which prolactin levels came down and cycle was regular for 2 months. There was no weight loss. Now again I have missed my period. It was supposed to start on 24th December but still has not started. Pregnancy test is negative. My weight is constantly increasing and now I weigh about 63kgs. The gynecologist has asked me to take Normoz. I want to know 1. Will Normoz will help me in my condition? My primary concern is weight gain and irregular cycle. 2. Doctor also suggested taking OCP to help treat PCOS. However, I faced several problems when I used OCP (Tab Novelon), like reduced sex drive, mood swings. It also worsened my migraine condition. Is there a milder OCP that I can use which can help me keep my weight in check and also not give me these problems? Note 1. I also have hypothyroidism and I take 100mg thyronorm. I take a blood test every 3 months and TSH levels are normal 2. I am a very active person. I workout at least for an hour 5-6 days a week and maintain a very healthy diet.

Hi

Yes,Normoz tablet can be taken. This is the medicine for polycystic ovarian disease. It contains Vitamins and Myoinositol which helps in increasing the chance of pregnancy. You can take the tablet for 3 months continuously. Monitoring with regular ultrasound is essential for improvement.

Newer oral contraceptives such as desogesterol can be tried since they have lesser side effects than the conventional pills. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
