Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Norvasc And Apresoline Be Taken While Suffering From Atrial Fibrillation?
Should NORVASC or APRESOLINE be prescribed to a patient that may have AFIB? Patient currently wearing heart monitor to determine if in AFIB. The reason for asking is both medications have side effects, such as, palpatations or tachachardia, cause dizziness, pounding of fast heartbeat, anxiety, etc. My concern is a false read if the medications issued cause the AFIB. Thank you.
These medications can cause tachycardia and increased heart rate but they do not cause atrial fibrillation (AFIB) itself. In patients with AFIB its better to administer Diltiazem as Ca Channel blocker to also control heart rate if the patient has high heart rates but if not both Norvasc and Apresoline can be administered.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
