Can OSMF Lead To Oral Cancer?

I am suffering from early osmf, Initially I, am taking antioxidant lycopen (in the form of lyconuron), although, Two, montihs back, I was facing some, burning sensation, but now there is no burning sensation. Now, I am facing some stiffness in complete mouth opening. I, got this problem(osmf), two months back, Is there, any complete cure for mouth opening stiffness or OSMF , or it will result in oral cancer. Anyway, I want to ask, how much time it takes to convert to oral cancer, or will case trouble in my normal life.

Hi.
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain you are suffering from Oral Submucous Fibrosis which is a precancerous condition but in your case it does not seems to be progressed much as you have just started facing stiffness in your cheeks which is due to formation of thick fibrous bands as well as the burning sensation has also subsided which is a good sign..
It is not necessary that OSMF will for sure convert into oral cancer provided that you have immediately quit all the habits like chewing betel nut or tobacco or both as it is the main causative factor for OSMF and if the habit is not stopped it can definitely lead to oral cancer..
You should continue taking anti-oxidant for the prescribed period of time and do mouth opening exercises like blowing the cheeks and trying to open the mouth wide under limits of pain toleration..
You may also be advised to apply steroid based ointments over the cheeks along with Hyluronidase containing ointment as it will help in breaking the fibres..
Injections of Hyluronidase and Steroid is also given directly into the fibres below the mucosa for breaking the fibres..
I would make it clear to you that complete recovery from stiffness is not possible and the only thing what can be done is to prevent progression of the stiffness and reduced mouth opening as well as get some improvement by the above measures..

Hope this information helps..
