Can Omnacortil Be Taken For Dengue?

Hello Dr. I am Mr. Padavan, I recently am detected of dengue. It s almost 5 days today and doctor told me to take omnacortil 10 mg. twice daily for 3 days. I am a bit sceptical about omnacortil because it s a steroid! Should I really be taking it?! My 1st blood platelet count was 91000. I will be taking another test tomorrow. Dr has told me to be admitted if my count is 75000. Please advise. Thank you.

Hello,

As per your history, yes you can take.

This is mainly given in case of itching which is more common in dengue.

Along with that do regular complete hemogram with platelet count, ESR. Keep your self hydrated. Take proper rest.

You may require intravenous fluids for early recovery

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale, General & Family Physician
