Can Oxetol And Valprol Cause Aggressive Behavior In Children?

My daughter 7½ years old have a problem of fits. She is taking oxetol 150mg 1½ BD, Valprol syrup 5 ml BD. She got sleep within 1 Hour after taking these doses (even in school). some time her behavior is also aggressive. She looks continuously at the faces who talk to her and does not answer easily. Her weight is also increased to 29 Kg. Are these problems due to these medicines? Doctor recommend het Modalert 100mg (¼ tablet) in morning to avoid sleeping in school. should I start this along with above treatment.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for reaching out.

I understand your concern, there are a few common side effects of Anti epileptic drugs like Valproate and Oxycarbamazepine which may be drowsiness, somnolence, weight changes, appetite changes, skin rashes, tremors, headache, nausea, blurry vision, etc.

Modalert may not cause an adverse reaction if used with AED's.

Hope this answers your queries.
Take care,
Regards,
Dr Vignan Rachabattuni
