Can Percocet Dosage Be Repeated In One Hour?

My hsuabnd took 1/2 dose (one hour ago) Percocet for pain post op. (Surgery yesterday). Doc said 1/2 - 1- 2 as needed. He is still in pain. Is it ok to take the other 1/2 dose only 1 hour later or does he have to wait 6 hours between doses as prescribed?
