Can Percocet Help To Cure Degenerative Disc Disease?

Just today I went to my Dr. for my monthly check up and RX refills. I have degenerative disc desease and and for the last year he has had me on oxycodone 30mg HCL 8X daily. Today out of no where and with no explaination he put me on Percocet 10/325, 3X daily. I know this is a significant change and I know my body will go through withdrawls. Is this common practice? I don't know what to do
