Can Prednisone 20mg Be Taken To Treat Re-occurring Hives?

i was prescribed prednisone 20mg tab wes on december 18, 2015. for the past week i have been having an allergic reaction to something. I ve been taking over the counter benadryl, and it clears the hives up temeporarily but each day they keep coming back and they itch badly. My question is, can i take the prednisone to clear this up. I still have 20 pills left.
