Can Prednisone Be Taken For Sore Throat While Suffering From Hashimoto S Disease?

my daughter has mono and strep. she is 19, has hashi moto s the mono test also said her liver functions were elevated. she has been taking 400 mg of ibuprohen every 4 hours. Can she also take prednisone to help ease her throat pain? Her throat looks like it has been solidly coated in cottage cheese.

Hi,

Better not to take prednisone for her. Prednisone is oral corticosteroid. It can worsen throat infection and liver enzymes. So don't give prednisone. Also avoid ibuprofen as it is also hepatotoxic drug and can further damage liver.

Start levocetirizine and paracetamol combination. Tell her to do warm water gargles 5-6 times a day. Start liver protective drugs. Also start multivitamin and multimineral tablets for faster recovery.
