Can Prevacid SoluTab Be Taken For Chronic Cough?

In the past, I have had a problem with a violent cough that closed my throat and made me feel like I was choking. I have Prevacid Solutab that will quickly stop my cough. Is there any danger in taking this med? I only take it when I have coughing spasm.

The cough is most probably caused by gastro esophageal reflux. Prevacid Solutab (lansoprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor used in this condition.
You can use it once in a while. I would have suggested my patient to adopt lifestyle modifications to reduce reflux. Lifestyle modifications like reduction of stress, having meals at regular frequency on day to day basis, having less spicy food. Also remember not to sleep on your right side as it would increase the reflux.
If lifestyle modifications doesn't help, I would suggest Prevacid for 4-8 weeks to reduce the symptoms only if it is severe and persistent OR if you get severe symptoms only once in a while, then you can use it during that period.
Hope this helps.
