Can Primidone Cause Headache?

Dr Keerthi I ve been taking primidone for essential tremors, but I also had a seizure back in April 2016. I have constant headaches taking this. Could it be the caffeine I drink such as tea soda, etc? Would the headaches stop, if I stopped using caffeine. I was told it was also for seizures. PLEASE let me know.. Jean Schaeffer Houston Texas

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Headache is a very common side effect of primidone. Caffeine does not headache. Caffeine can cause decreased sleep, restlessness, nervousness, nausea, vomiting, and gastric irritation. Primidone is used both for seizure and essential tremor.
If headache is intolerable then we have two options:
1.     Dose reduction of primidone or
2.     Shifting to propranolol which is another drug used for essential tremor
Propranolol is a prescription based medicine.
Advice
1.     Consult your doctor and ask your doctor for above options
2.     Do not alter dose or drug by yourself
3.     Paracetamol 500 mg orally after meal for temporary relief of headache
4.     Stop smoking, alcohol, coffee, and caffeinated beverages
5.     Do not take much mental stress as any kind of mental stress also causes headache

I hope this information will help you. I will be happy if you ask another question
Thanks
