Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis. My doctor wanted me to take prolia. I declined - having taught anatomy and physiology for 20 years, I m familiar with monoclonal antibodies. As wonderful as they are, I don t want to take one that monkeys with my T cells or B cells. That said, I know a little bit of knowledge is sometimes a dangerous thing. I m a 68 year old white female, small frame, family history of osteoporosis, took fosimax for about 5 years completing that series about 10 years ago. Bone density in spine is -1.5, in left hip is -2.5. I exercise regularly and have increased that. Any thoughts ?
Prolia contains denosumab. It can be used in osteoporosis. Prolia is a monoclonal antibody. These only destroy certain cells in the body and these may help to protect healthy cells in body. It is used to treat postmenopausal osteoporosis who are at a high risk of bone fracture.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Pavani
