Can Provera Tablet Be Taken To Delay Menstruation?

I got my period and I do not want to have it for a vacation I have planned this weekend. I was prescribed provera after I had my daughter because I bled for a month. Can I start taking it to stop this cycle? And how long does it take to work? And if so, how long should I take it? I got my tubes tied. I am not concerned with pregnancy or anything. Just don t want to have it when I m away.

Hello,

You want to delay your periods. The medicines to delay periods are only taken when most required as they may cause side effects and discomfort thereafter. The medication has to be taken three days before your period is due and you will have to take one tablet three times a day for up to 10 days. This will delay your period for this time frame and you should start bleeding in two to four days after you stop taking the pills.

However, the side effects are low mood, acne, breast tenderness, fluid retention and loss of libido, increased thirst, increased urination, headache, weight gain, hair loss, etc. Stay away from smoking , drugs, alcohol, etc., for the best efficacy of the medicine.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
