Can Quinine Be Taken For Recurring Episodes Of Cramps In Feet, Legs And Thighs At Night?

I have muscle cramps in my feet and legs and thighs every night all night long. I am 80,take magnesium,potassium etc. cramps now in my hands (I am a pianist).Occur from 3 to 11 times a night. Doctor wants to give me quinine 200mg, I will not take it because of downside. Help!! I sleep between episodes mostly. YYYY@YYYY

Hi,

Yes, quinine can be used for muscle cramps but I suggest cardiac arrhythmia related issues should better be ruled out with an EKG and other causes like low calcium, vitamin D, Ferritin, B12 and folic acid should be evaluated and replaced if needed.
