Hi,
Rabipur vaccine should not be given in the buttocks. As per the recommendation
deltoid muscle (upper and outer quadrant of the arm) is ideal for the administration of this vaccine.
Because of fat present in the buttock region slows the vaccine absorption and hence may impair the protection against
rabies, it is not advisable to inject rabipur in the buttock regions.
So, as per the guidelines you have to take five intramuscular injections in deltoid muscle only, one dose each given on days 0, 3, 7, 14 and 28. Day 0 indicates the date of administration of the first injection of vaccine.
So, you need to take an extra dose in compensation for the first dose which was mistakenly given in the buttock.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
