Can Simvastatin Be Taken Along With Atorvastatin?

My doctor prescribed Zetia 10 mg. Simvastatin 20mg and Atorvastatin 40 mg, isn t that one statin too many? I know Zetia can be prescribed with one Statin, but 2? That sounds strange, did my mail order pharmacy made a mistake? Thank you, Karen Furnas, YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is unusual to be on both statins so it is possible that the pharmacy made an error.

It would be best speak to both your doctor and the pharmacy. The doctor can verify which medications you should be using and the pharmacy would need to be aware of the problem so that it can be avoided in the future

I hope this helps
