Can Synthyroid And Actalin Be Taken Together?

I saw an ad for Actalin. I am 59 yr old female already taking Synthroid, is this not enough? Should I be looking into taking Synthyroid medication together with Actalin or possibly taking Actalin by itself? My physician seems happy with my thyroid tests results at present.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

Synthyroid alone is sufficient to treat hypothyroidism because it is potent, better tolerated, dosed once daily, and the response can be easily monitored by thyroid function tests. Actalin is a nutritional supplement which contains various vitamins, minerals and a good amount of iodine. Taking excess iodine can result in overactive thyroid which can cause sudden weight loss, a rapid or irregular heartbeat, sweating, and nervousness or irritability. So, I advise you not take these supplements, continue taking Synthyroid as prescribed by your doctor, and monitor the response periodically by measuring thyroid hormones.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
