Can TMJ Cause Severe Burning Pain In Eustachian Tube And Jaws During Food Intake?

I have been having issues with horrific pain when I try to eat, as soon as anything goes in my mouth with any flavor at all it sets off an attack that is inside and down in the area of my eustacian tubes and my jaws, it feels like burning enzymes and pressure. I ve lost about 70 pounds in the past few months because eating is so difficult and my doctor doesn t know what it is. I was diagnosed years ago with TMJ but never have I experienced anything like this before and its starting to really worry me.

Hi,

Yes, TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder) can cause pain in the jaw and surrounding areas, including the eustachian tubes, during eating or other jaw movements. This type of pain is a common symptom of TMJ. If you are experiencing severe and persistent pain, you must see a doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. The doctor may refer you to a specialist, such as an oral surgeon or a dentist with expertise in TMJ disorders.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
