Can Temazepam And Ambien Be Taken Together For Insomnia?

I have been taking ambien 10 mg for over 6 months and it has stopped working. My doctor prescribed me temazepam 30 mg today which i took at 10 pm tonight and i still have not fallen asleep and it is 5 am. Can i take a second temazepam 30 mg right now along with a half dose of 5mg of ambien?

Hi there. Both the drugs has the potential to be addictive so firstly be aware of that. Eventhough they are technically not the same class of drug they basically work the same way. Taking both toghether could also lead to side effects like oversedation or a hangover effect the next morning. I would suggest optimizing the dose of one drug before augmenting with another drug. Starting new drugs could take about 7 days to reach full effect. The reason why ambien probably stopped working is what we call drug tolerance, which mean that more of a drug is needed to have the same effect. Also read up on sleep hygiene as it could also be of benefit
