Can Toprol XL Be Taken In The Evening?

Hi ! I am taking Toprol XL 25 mg each day as prescribed by my cardiologist after successive SVT episodes. I ve been on this medication for roughly 10 years now. I take it usually in the morning after breakfast, along with my morning multi-vitamins. My other prescription meds are Synthroid 100 mcg for hypothyroidism and NATPARA 25 mcg injection daily for hypoparathyroidism, both also taken in the morning. Question: Is it acceptable to take my Toprol XL in the evening ? Thank you, Kay

Yes, Toprol XL may be taken in the evening.


Toprol-XL (Metoprolol) -a cardio selective beta blocker which is an extended-release tablet intended for once daily administration.

It does not matter what time of day Toprol XL is taken, but you should make sure to take it at the same times each day to maintain an even level of the medication in your blood. Also, the medication should be taken with or immediately following a meal.

So, continue taking other medications as prescribed by your treating doctor.
