General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.

Yes, if taken together it may cause harmful effects.

Taking Cymbalta while on Trazodone can increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called the serotonin syndrome characterized by symptoms such as confusion, hallucination, seizure, extremely high BP, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, blurred vision, muscle stiffness, tremor, incoordination, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Sometimes it may result in coma and even death.

So, in view of the above it is not safe to take these two medications together. Consult his treating doctor for an alternate effective but a safer medication to treat his prolonged sleep.

Hope this will help him/
