Can Tri-Sprintec Be Used For Treating Excess Hair Growth And PCOS?

Hello, my name is Shamar. I am a woman that was diagnosed with PCOS years ago. However, I was just prescribed Tri-Sprintec to help lower my 3x over the normal rate of testosterone in my body. My question is; will the excessive facial, chest, and back hair subside? Also, will the PCOS go away, and what benefits can I look forward too? I am on my third week of pills.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Tri-Sprintec (norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol) is a combination of the female hormones estrogen and progesterone used as contraception and also used to treat severe acne. This drug will help in regularising your cycles, reduce the androgenic side effects like acne and excess hair. Regular monitoring of your hormone levels and pelvic ultrasound should be done.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
