Can Valsartan Be Taken Along With Metoprolol?

Hi my mother is taking valsartan for high blood pressure and she is also taking atenolol. The pharmacy is waitng to receive more atenolol to refill her prescription but in the meantime they called her doctor s office to get a substitute for the atenolol and the doctor prescribed metoprolol tartrate. I am concerned about the valsartan and the metoprolol making her blood pressure too long. she is taking 320 mg of valsartan and the metroprolol is 25mg. She hasn t started the metroprolol. I am also concerned because one of the common side effects of the metoprolol is severe abnormally low blood pressure.

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, she can definitely take valsartan and metoprolol together.
Metoprolol is newer beta blocker. It is safer as compare to Atenolol.
So it won't cause severe hypotension.
So give her metoprolol along with valsartan.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your mother. Thanks.
