Can Virtussin And Benadryl Be Taken The Same Day?

I am a 74 year old female ( 105 lbs ). I went to my internist Tuesday for extreme congestion and cough. He prescribed a Z-PAC and Virtussin AC syrup. I had been taking one benadryl at night and one in the morning along with Musinex DM at night and in the morning for my congestion, sneezing, cough. I have taken two doses of Virtussin ( 1 tsp. 5MLS - Tuesday night and 1 tsp. Wednesday night. I never plan to take Virtussin again. I am awake at 3:30 AM, congested. Is it safe to take a Benadryl or a Musinex 7 hours after I took 1 tsp. of Virtussin?

Hello,

Virtussin should not be taken along with Benadryl on the same day. If taken together with Benadryl, Vitrussin AC may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating. In the elderly, it may also cause impairment in thinking, judgment, and motor coordination which may result in falls and injuries.

Since Mucinex is not known to cause such harmful interactions, so it may be taken seven hours after taking virtussin AC syrup.
