I am a male 54 years old and having a lot of heart palpations lately along with anxiety and no sleep taking the Harvoni edipasvir, sofosbuvir)tablets 90mg/400mg. I would like to know can I take some type of xanax to help with the anxiety and the sleep or the heart palpatations?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome to HCM.
Benzodiazepines like Xanax are not effective to treat heart palpitations, anxiety and sleep disorders.
In such case a beta blocker like Propranolol is very effective in not only preventing the heart palpitatons, tremors and sweating but also to treat sleep disturbance.
However, beta blockers generally should not be used by asthmatics, diabetics or people with some forms of heart disease.
Hope this will help you.
