General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.
I can understand your concern.

Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) when taken along with Aspirin may increase the risk of severe bleeding as these drugs interfere with clot formation. Hence should not be taken together.

The main complication of atrial fibrillation is an increased risk of having a stroke. Atrial fibrillation can interfere with the blood flow in the heart chambers. This leads to small blood clot formation in a heart chamber.

A clot can travel in the blood vessels until it gets stuck in a smaller blood vessel in the brain (or sometimes in another part of the body). Part of the blood supply to the brain may then be cut off, which causes a stroke.

This clot formation is usually prevented by giving blood (anticoagulants) like Warfarin or Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) that is as effective as Warfarin for preventing strokes.

Aspirin is no longer recommended for stroke prevention in people with atrial fibrillation because it is not very effective. Hence, there is no need to continue with the Aspirin.

Hope this answers your query.
