Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had Mirena for 7 months and I was paranoid about my IUD moving from where it should be. I went back to my doctor about a month after I got it and she said it was in the right place. However, I constantly have pain in my left pelvis. It comes in waves of severe, back to nagging annoying pain. I m worried that it s moved or something worse. Is this normal? Do I need to go to the doctor again? Should I get it removed? I m tired of my left side always hurting.
Thanks for asking at Healthcare Magic. I read your question and I understand your concern. Mirena, levonorgestrel releasing IUCD causes pain in some females. However if pain is excruciating or out of proportion that means it has embedded in uterine wall. I would like to advise you to take simple pain killer like Advil or Tylenol. If the pain is getting worse or excruciating in nature contact your doctor. Best contraception is barrier method that is using condomn if are using Mirena for contraception. As barrier methods are safe less chances of conception if perfectly used by male partner. Alternatively you can use hormonal patch in which side effects profile and success rate is equal to IUCD and with less chance of pain. Hope it helps best.
