Can A Contraceptive Be Taken If There Is No Menstruation?

Good day, I would just like to find out how i need to take the pill when i have a mirena. I have it in for 5 years now and financially don t have the funds to replace it. I would like to go on the pill for the time until i can get it replaced and i don t want to fall pregnant now. How do i start taking the pill as i do not have a menstrual cycle? Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since fertility resumes immediately after removing Mirena and the fact that you do have your period as well, therefore you should start taking birth control pills one week before the removal of Mirena.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
