Can A Female With 5 HLA Matches With Her Partner Be Pregnant?

I need to know if its really true, that since I have five HLA (human leukocyte antigen) matches with my husband, that we will not be able to have a second child. A reproductive immunologist told us the HLA matches are serious . However I have been pregnant twice before, with one live birth. In spite of the matches. He said I will need IVIG, neupogen and other expensive drugs to get & stay pregnant. Its not that I think he is lying, I just want a second opinion on if I really need all those drugs.

Hello ma'am and welcome.

The HLA matches do not pose to be a threat for the first child, but it is because of the first child that your body develops antibodies and attacks the blood cells of the second or later children. Because of this, the medication is required (i.e IvIg).

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
