Can A Flexible Sigmoidoscopy Be Done While Suffering From Hypertension?

I am having a flexible sigmoidoscopy this morning. I have a-fib and have been taking warfarin.I am now taking lovenox shots because i am off warfarin for the procedure; i am concerned about being put to sleep. I think it is a light sedation but am concerned for stroke as i also have factor v leiden. Is it safe to have this as my blood pressure gets pretty high under stress.

Hi,

High blood pressure and the bleeding problem cannot be considered absolute contraindications for sigmoidoscopy.

If sigmoidoscopy is necessary than it has to be done although some risk present.

The procedure will be performed under mild sedation and so don't worry about that. Don't take stress as it can raise your blood pressure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
