Hi, I have hereditary haemochromatosis and have been getting regular venesections for approx 6 years to keep my ferritin levels down. Although this is under control, my LFTs bounce around quite a bit. eg (Jan) GGT-112, ALT-48, AST 32, (Feb) GGT-66, ALT-36, AST-30, (July) GGT-175, ALT-71, AST-43. For the last few weeks, I've been on a "liver detox diet" (just fruit, nuts and veg, green tea, milk thistle, garlip capsules). I drink about 7 pints in one day per month, no alcohol other than that. My diet is fairly healthy (although I probably eat too many simple carbs). but I struggle to remove trunk weight (32 years old, 5' 11", 13st 12lbs). I'm due for a CT scan in a few weeks, as ultrasounds have shown up nothing other than a slightly enlarged spleen. No liver biopsy has been done. Could this all be due to diet? Something more sinister?
