Can A Longstanding Nodule In The Lung Be A Serious Condition?

I had an exray of my shoulder - it will be fine - but the doctor said they could see in my xray a part of my lung and it looked like i had - a nogel (or something like that) inside my lung. They told me it might not be anything important and could be something that has been there a long time. I have a follow up appoitment but this has depressed me and I am wondering what type of thing could there be? I had an xray a year ago and they didn t say anything about it then.

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Nodule on chest x ray is mostly an incidental finding. Usually it is benign cyst only. But we need to rule out early lung cancer first.
So first get done CT thorax with Contrast.
CT thorax will give you much more idea about nodule size, margins, content, association with surrounding lung and mediastinal lymphnodes.
On CT, if it is benign lesion then no need to worry much for this nodule.
But if it is suspicious of malignancy then you need biopsy for confirmation.
So at present, no need to worry. Get done CT thorax with Contrast and discuss all these with your doctor.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
